Unknown but familiar

An old shoe box with photos with, for me, unknown faces; are they my ancestors? Why photos from the Dutch East Indies, I don't know the stories. It was not my intention to explore the relationships, but instead to give them a familiar face. Their way of posing is endearing, almost vulnerable, something I wanted to treasure.
It has become a kind of house, with many rooms. The photo's are covered with the following written texts (in Dutch):
"Photos remain when everything else is forgotten"
"I don't know whose past I remember"(Octavio Paz)
"Unknown but familiar"

Angry Birds

A beautiful vine, seed pods that evoke the association with birds. The inability to do anything against the farmers dressed up as hunters  who on Sunday shoot birds from the sky, that is the origin of this work, with dip pens as weapons.
